The Ighalo Systems is looking for an experienced Cybersecurity Mentor to join our team on a part-time, remote contract basis. This role is perfect for a seasoned cybersecurity expert with a passion for teaching and helping newcomers to the field develop their skills. About the Role:
As a Cybersecurity Mentor, you will be responsible for teaching and guiding students who are new to the field of cybersecurity. You will help them develop a strong foundation in essential cybersecurity concepts, provide hands-on labs, and assist with certification preparation (such as CompTIA Security+, CISSP, CEH, etc.). Your mentorship will help students build the skills and confidence needed to pursue a career in cybersecurity.
Responsibilities:
- Mentor and guide students who are new to the field of cybersecurity
- Teach fundamental cybersecurity concepts, including network security, cryptography, risk management, threat analysis, incident response, and ethical hacking
- Conduct virtual lessons and labs to demonstrate common cybersecurity techniques and tools
- Provide hands-on experience in cybersecurity tools and technologies such as firewalls, IDS/IPS, VPNs, and endpoint security
- Help students prepare for industry certifications such as CompTIA Security+, CEH, CISSP, and others
- Review student assignments, projects, and labs, providing constructive feedback and insights
- Share industry best practices and career paths in cybersecurity
- Guide students in troubleshooting security issues and understanding common attack vectors (e.g., phishing, malware, DDoS, SQL injection, etc.)
- Foster an interactive and collaborative learning environment that encourages questions, discussion, and practical application of skills
Requirements:
- 10+ years of professional cybersecurity experience with a deep understanding of security protocols, threat landscapes, and industry best practices
- Must hold CISSP (Certified Information Systems Security Professional) or CISA (Certified Information Systems Auditor) as the highest certification, with other advanced certifications such as CEH (Certified Ethical Hacker), CISM (Certified Information Security Manager), or CISA preferred
- Extensive experience in network security, vulnerability management, ethical hacking, cryptography, and risk management
- Hands-on experience with security tools and technologies such as firewalls, SIEM (Security Information and Event Management), IDS/IPS, endpoint protection, vulnerability scanners, and DLP (Data Loss Prevention) tools
- Strong understanding of security frameworks and standards (NIST, ISO 27001, SOC 2, GDPR, etc.)
- Familiarity with cloud security, including securing AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud environments
- In-depth knowledge of common attack vectors and defensive strategies, including malware, phishing, DDoS attacks, SQL injection, cross-site scripting (XSS), and more
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to beginners in a clear and concise manner
- Strong passion for teaching and mentoring students, helping them build confidence in their cybersecurity skills
- Availability on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday between 7:00 PM – 11:00 PM EST

- Security Technologies: Firewalls, VPNs, IDS/IPS, SIEM tools (Splunk, LogRhythm, etc.), Endpoint Protection (Symantec, CrowdStrike, etc.), Antivirus/Antimalware solutions
- Cybersecurity Tools: Wireshark, Metasploit, Kali Linux, Burp Suite, Nessus, Nmap, OpenVAS
- Operating Systems: Windows, Linux (RHEL, Ubuntu), UNIX, Mac OS
- Protocols & Networking: TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP/S, SSL/TLS, VPNs, IPsec, HTTP headers
- Cloud Security: AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, and security considerations in cloud platforms
- Risk Management: NIST Cybersecurity Framework, ISO 27001, GDPR, HIPAA, PCI DSS
- Cryptography & Encryption: AES, RSA, public key infrastructure (PKI), certificates, hashing algorithms
- Security Testing: Vulnerability assessment, penetration testing, ethical hacking methodologies
- Incident Response: Forensics, intrusion detection, log analysis, incident management
- Automation & Scripting: Python, Bash, PowerShell for security automation
- Compliance & Governance: SOC 2, ISO 27001, HIPAA, PCI-DSS
